Show Program

Show Program

After our son graduated high school in 2015 we established a show program to assist students in developing their own leadership abilities and earn valuable scholarship money, all while experiencing the joy of raising and exhibiting longhorn cattle.

Applicants were required to submit a two-page essay on their educational/career goals.  Finalists completed a face-to-face or virtual interview.  Members of the team were provided an animal to show for two-three years and were required to attend certain shows.  They were also required to compete in various leadership activities, including speech contests and the keeping of a recordbook.  In return, exhibitors were awarded the chance to earn cash incentives and scholarships, both from the shows they attended and from Newcastle Ranch.

We ran the program for five years with three different exhibitors; Miss Jenna, Miss Dakota, and Miss Naomi.  All three young ladies represented our program well and successfully grew out their projects until they aged out of the circuit.  In 2019-2020 we went out with a bang; Miss Naomi exhibited her assigned heifer, Miss Margi, to a 5th place finish at the National TLBT Show.  Since we are now focusing our efforts on raising beef, and Jaema hopes to begin judging some events, we have discontinued our program for now.
